Delaram Ali will not go to prison, but
Saturday, November 10, 2007 by Sanam
Delaram Ali’s attorney told ISNA news agency today that the judiciary chief has stopped Delaram’s sentence and her case is sent for revision. This does not guarantee that she won’t go to prison, but at least she has a chance for now.
But, two young women in Iran’s Kurdistan are in prison. They are both members of one million signature campaign:
Hana Abdi Arrested in Kurdistan, Ronak Safarzadeh Still in Prison

I wonder what do the wives of Iran’s leaders think about the way that their husbands treat Iranian women? Are these wives happy and comfortable being considered as second class citizens? I wonder how many secretly support the women activists, but are afraid to let their views be known to their husbands? I have learned a few things about the wives of American aristocrats in the 19th century. They had no rights and few freedoms. They were pampered and secluded within their houses, but many were not happy. Some became drug addicts to escape from the unhappiness of their lives. I can’t but wonder if the wives of Iran’s elite men are very unhappy also. I know that Iranian women have a lot more freedom than 19th century American women, but their lives are still very much dominated by men and restrictive laws.
Shahla Nouri, I signed the petition and wrote a comment there as well. I doubt that it will make any difference to President Ahmadinejad, as he seems very set in his ways, but it is always a good thing for people to speak out in support of justice. Tyranny thrives on fear induced silence.
